England - Switzerland – the third quarter-final of EURO 2024

It was a close call for the English to miss out on the quarter-finals of the EURO. Their weak performance in the group stage was not a coincidence - in the round of 16 match against Slovakia, England once again lacked color. The Slovaks were just a minute away from advancing - in stoppage time, Jude Bellingham shone with a brilliant overhead kick to beat the opponent's goalkeeper. In extra time, the Sons of Albion quickly scored a goal to make it 2-1 (Harry Kane) and controlled the game until the end against the tiring Slovaks. However, criticism is raining down on the coach and the team, as the players seem fatigued from the season, lacking freshness, and the coach's choices are not well-received - evidenced by the enthusiastic reactions of fans when substitutes Cole Palmer and Trent Alexander-Arnold enter the field. 

It's a different story with the Swiss - they may play predictably, but very cohesively. They have players capable of playing spectacularly (Ruben Vargas, goal and assist against Italy) and those with incredible field vision (Granit Xhaka). Suffice it to say that Switzerland comfortably defeated the title defenders, Italy. Although Italy hit the post twice - once by the Swiss themselves - Switzerland's superiority was undeniable. 

The England-Switzerland match will certainly not be an easy one for the English, with many considering the Swiss as favorites. England has played Switzerland 27 times, winning 19 and losing only 3 times (the last loss was in 1981).
